THE ICE AGE

This past week there was a rare winter blast in my hometown. Freezing rain, snow, and more freezing rain. Yesterday, temperatures warmed and everything is beginning to melt. I dug this little snow cave, and thought about the Ice Age.

How do we know the Ice Age was real?
Evolutionists believe that over millions of years there were five global Ice Ages, because if it wasn’t five, then their other theories wouldn’t match up very well. They had to come up with that theory in order for all their other theories to look true.

As a Christian we know the truth, that God made the world in six days. Many creation scientists have studied hard, and uncovered a lot of evidence that goes right along with the bible for God creating the world, and the timeline of events in history.

The biblical timeline of Noah’s ark, and the events, before, during, after that, point to so much truth. Creation scientists have studied rock layers, to show that our world was not formed over millions of years. Rock layers formed quickly one onto another through the massive flood waters rushing through, during the Worldwide Biblical Flood of Noah’s Day. So much evidence to throw out all “theories” of evolution.

Before I go any further, I want to share an interesting scripture found in the book of Job. It says:
“Have you entered the treasury of snow,
Or have you seen the treasury of hail,
Which I have reserved for the time of trouble,
For the day of battle and war?
By what way is light diffused,
Or the east wind scattered over the earth?
From whose womb comes the ice?
And the frost of heaven, who gives it birth?
The waters harden like stone,
And the surface of the deep is frozen.”
Job 38:22-24, 29-30

This sounds like Job experienced living in snow and ice. Seems Job witnessed the Ice Age for himself.

Who else witnessed the Ice Age? Many people groups remember the Ice Age. There are stories told and retold in Russia, and even the Mayans of Central America, about their ancestors, who lived in a time with black rain and twilight. Also people groups of Chile, Argentina, Mexico and more, also told stories about the Ice Age.

There are various ancient civilizations found on land, but they have also been found under water. I find this fascinating. How did these cities get covered with water? One great answer is that when the Ice Age was melting away, the waters started to rise higher and higher, covering these ancient cities.

How did the Ice Age form? I would like to go back to the time of Noah’s Flood. According to creation scientists, after Noah’s flood, the ocean waters had risen dramatically. There was a warmer environment, due to volcanic activity, which caused the oceans to begin evaporating. The combination of the ocean evaporation and volcanoes releasing ash like particles known as aerosols into the clouds, this must have caused quite a heavy haze, and blocked the rays of the sun, creating cooler summers, which then became “The Ice Age”.

I experienced something a tiny bit like this last summer, when my home state was affected by massive wildfires. A smoky haze covered the atmosphere for days. In the middle of what would have been close to 100 degree temperatures, the smoke blocked the sun, making the heat less intense, and the sun was not even visible.

I think it is important to note that right after the flood, as the oceans were evaporating, and land was being exposed, that there is evidence, land bridges provided a way to help the animals from Noah’s Ark to migrate across.

There were canine fossils found that prove they traveled from Asia and ended up in North America. DNA in the fossilized bones showed dogs had Asian ancestry, showing that dogs hopped off Noah’s Ark, traveled, and eventually walked across these land bridges between Asia and over to North America.

Eventually, as those oceans evaporated and volcanic aerosols blocked the sun out, causing cooler temperatures, the Ice Age went into effect. It seems people groups built those ancient cities during the time of the Ice Age. Eventually, as the Ice Age began warming up, those oceans rose, and those land bridges were covered over, along with the ancient cities.

How did the Ice Age Affect the animals? Many animals have been found mostly mummified in different places. One of the most well known mammals during the Ice Age, the Woolly Mammoth was found buried in Siberia. Some mammoths have been found with bits of butter cup flowers in their mouths, showing they mostly fed on plants that grew on the ground. Even recently two Siberian cave lion cubs were found frozen there, believed to be around one and two weeks old. And in 2020, the first mummified cave bear was discovered. How did these animals die? These animals died, and were preserved, in huge amounts of mud and sediments. Mammoths and other mammals were buried in huge, cold, sand storms, during the Ice Age.

Dinosaur bones have also been found unfossilized. One example goes back to 1967. Geologist, Robert L. Liscomb, discovered along the Colville River in Alaska, fresh not fossilized, bones. He thought they belonged to a mammoth or a bison. Many years later, scientists now know they belonged to a duckbilled dinosaur. This shows for some strong possibility, that there were dinosaurs after the flood, that died in the cold or sand storms of the Ice Age.

When did the Ice age begin and end? According to the biblical timeline, the ice age happened around the year 1900 to 2000 B.C, lasting around 500 years.

Did the Ice Age happen in the extreme way it is suggested affecting every corner of the earth? How destructive was it? According to creation scientists, only 30% of the continents, were really affected by this event. Closer to the equator the temperatures were more tropical.

Why does all this matter so much? The truth truly matters. Knowing the truth affects our whole life. Many evidences point to The Creator God and Savior. What the bible explains through history, matches up with geological, and so many other evidences discovered, to reveal TRUTH.

God created. Man sins. We all need a Savior.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Rom. 3:23

Noah’s Ark and the Flood are real. God delights in saving people. He gives warnings, to get people’s attention. He gave a warning to Noah and the people of the earth at that time that He was sending a Flood in judgment of the sin that had grown so corrupt. People mocked, did not believe, went on living their lives their way. Only Noah and his family, along with animals of two of every kind were saved. God provided the shelter. The escape from the judgment to come. God is still trying to get people’s attention. God is all about saving.

Many years later God sent His only Son, to be the sacrifice, and pay the penalty for sin. Death. Jesus Christ died, in order to save those who will receive His gift of Salvation and be under His protective shelter now and forevermore into eternity. Every human one day, will die and stand before God. Like Noah’s Ark, God saves those who trust and obey. The rest of the world left behind, faced their decision of catastrophic death.

When you meet God, how will He judge you? Will He see you have received Jesus and say “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your rest” Matthew 25:23? Or will He not see Jesus in you, and say “depart from me, I never knew you?” ? Matthew 7:23

You see we experience storms. It could be a real storm like a blizzard. If you were in a blizzard you know you would want to find shelter from it immediately. That blizzard, is our life. As I point to our Spiritual life. We go through the storm of the spiritual life with sin and struggle. But we have a Shelter we can run to, Who saves. That is Jesus.

Jesus says ” I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6

Do you see why the TRUTH is so important?

“This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God”. Gen. 6:9

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,  because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” Romans 1:20-21

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
