You might have seen or heard of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, which are fictitious Hollywood movies about cloned dinosaurs, living in modern times. There are some things in the movies that might have deceived many fans. I’m going to share with you 4 examples, then, share what the truth is in a biblical point of view.
1 Velociraptor
In the movies, the dinosaur portrayed as Velociraptor, was not a Velociraptor. It was the Deinonychus, (a possible relative) which was a much larger dinosaur. This dinosaur is portrayed as a savage, intelligent (able to open doors), pack hunting animal.
The Velociraptor was actually small, only about as tall as a large turkey (2 feet tall) and grew 6 feet in length, from head to tail. Scientists studied the brain cavities of Velociraptor; it was discovered that it was possibly not as vicious or as smart as portrayed in the movies.
Another thing is that there is no evidence that Velociraptor and other predatory dinosaurs hunted in packs. Some people believe that Velociraptor more likely hunted alone (like the Tiger).
One of the most spectacular Velociraptor fossils was found in Mongolia along with a Protoceratops. It shows the two of them locked in combat! Since Noah’s Flood did happen, and the fossils from this event formed quickly, this shows that their fight must have been interrupted and preserved by the powerful forces of The Flood.
2 Dilophosaurus
Another popular dinosaur in the Jurassic Park movies is the Dilophosaurus. In the first movie, it is portrayed with an enormous, neck-frill that fanned out when agitated. It also showed the dinosaur’s ability to spit some kind of poison, or stomach acid.
First, there is no fossil evidence to support that this dinosaur had a neck-frill. However, scientists do know that (from fossilized remains) it did have two crests on its head (shaped like a taco shell).
Second, there is also no evidence that Dilophosaurus could spit poison on its prey. The bible, as well as historical documents from 1500’s, does suggest a possibility of this kind of behavior in dinosaurs. God talks about the Leviathan (a giant sea monster from the book of Job), having the ability to breathe fire. So, it is possible that Leviathan, and other dinosaur-like creatures could have behaved this way.
3 Pyroraptor: Dinosaur not Bird
In the trailer for Jurassic World: Dominion, there is a scene showing a dinosaur with red feathers, and having the ability to swim under water, like a sea bird. It’s called the Pyroraptor. This creature is based on the evolutionary lie that birds are descendants of dinosaurs. One of the many things that evolutionists believe about dinosaurs, is that birds are the only living descendants of the dinosaurs. There is a lot of evidence that defies this.
First, fossils of modern birds (ducks, parrots, penguins, owls, etc.) have been found in the same rock layers (after Noah’s Flood) as dinosaurs. If evolution were true, these fossils of modern birds should not be there alongside dinosaurs. The point is dinosaurs and birds of all kinds died together in The Flood.
Second, in 1999, scientists claimed that a half bird, half dinosaur was discovered in the fossil record, known as the Archeoraptor. This turned out to be proven a fake.
Third, the bible clearly states that God created birds on day 5 of creation, and dinosaurs (and other land animals) on day 6. So, the conclusion is that God created dinosaurs (like the Pyroraptor) and birds very different from one another.
4 Adaptation
Last of all, in the trailer for Jurassic World: Dominion, it showed the dinosaurs living in the wilderness of present day, California. In the middle of snowy winter! There is a problem with this.
The problem is that evolutionists believe dinosaurs once lived in places that are cold, because fossils of these animals have been found in these polar regions. Evolutionists also believe that Dinosaurs were warm-blooded (gaining body heat from metabolism), which would have allowed them to thrive in cold climates. This is why this movie and others have portrayed dinosaurs living in this kind of climate, however, this is not scientifically accurate or true.
It is true dinosaur fossils are found in polar regions (Alaska and Antarctica). This doesn’t mean they lived and adapted to cold climates. It means that the polar regions they once lived in (before Noah’s Flood), were warm and tropical (like the Amazon jungle). After the Flood the climate changed drastically. There was an ice age, the dinosaurs no longer could thrive there, and they died.
There isn’t proof dinosaurs were warm blooded. Dinosaur fossils show some design features similar with modern reptiles, which are cold blooded. One example comes from a very small dinosaur called Scipionyx. It was discovered with a lung system similar to modern crocodiles! Another example comes from four dinosaur skulls that were CT scanned. The scans showed the dinosaurs nasal cavities were more similar to modern cold blooded animals, like crocodiles. So its a good possibility that dinosaurs were cold-blooded, meaning that (like modern reptiles) they had to bask in the sun to gain energy.
If dinosaurs were living today, they would have little chance to adapt to cold climates, like the movies portray.
Gospel Conclusion
So what’s the lesson from all of this?
Satan is the deceiver. He uses many tactics to deceive. He even uses the very “Word of God” as he twists it around into something false. He did this with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden in the very beginning. He even twisted the very scriptures to attempt to deceive Jesus while he was in the wilderness for 40 days. Jesus is God, so He spoke the Word correctly back to the devil. Eventually the devil fled.
We need to be on guard and discern what is true, or false because of the deception in this world.
You might say, it’s just a movie, what’s the big deal? Satan uses so many things of the world, in clever ways, to deceive.
God created dinosaurs for our enjoyment and His glory. The world uses dinosaurs to draw people into the wonders of these amazing creatures, but then twists around the truth and turns it into a lie.
For example, we know dinosaurs existed. Hollywood, along with unbelievers, and evolutionists, try to deceive people, by using what God made and called “Good” – like dinosaurs, to turn it into bad, with all their false ideas and teachings. Ultimately teaching the lie, there is no God.
Jesus does not want anyone to be deceived. The bible has all our answers for the truth. It is complete! It is the Book we can go to for all our answers for life. Jesus is Creator and Savior. Truth and Life. He came into the world to preach the good news and died on that cross to pay the penalty for sin. He rose from the dead and is now building a place for those who believe in Him. They will spend eternity with Him forever!
One day all the saints will dwell together with Jesus Christ in the new heaven and new earth, where all is righteous. Everything will be made “right”. I wonder, will dinosaurs also, be there? Afterall, man has been fascinated with dinosaurs, and the very creation God declared good. Men have used and abused this good creation and twisted it all into a lie and deceived many. Maybe, in the new heaven and new earth, saints will also dwell with dinosaurs! With all things being made “right”, or “righteous”, dinosaurs might, once again live, in righteousness, and perfect goodness of God, for His glory.
“Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness”. 2 Peter 3:13
