MAMMOTHS AND MASTODONS

Mammoths were one of the African elephant’s closest relatives, living on most of the continents, like Africa, North America, Europe and Asia. In the pacific Northwest, mammoths have only been uncovered as fossils, but in Siberia mammoths have been found frozen, (in layers of mud and sediment) just like the turkey you leave in the freezer. You probably remember in another article how these animals went extinct.

Today I am going to explain how they lived, behaved, and what they ate. And will talk about one of the mammoths closest relatives. The mastodon.

Fossil mammoths have been found buried together in herds, in fossil sites in some parts of the world, like Mexico, which means that like elephants, they were social animals too.

Judging from mummified evidence in Siberia, mammoths ate grass and buttercup flowers, but these plants no longer live in Siberia. Only moss and muck are there now. This shows that after the flood, Siberia had these colorful and green plants. When the Ice age came though, it killed the grasses and buttercups, making mammoths starve. And along with the freezing famine, came dust storms, that killed and buried the mammoths.

Another extinct elephant is the mastodon. You might ask, what is the difference between a mammoth, and a mastodon? The best way to tell them apart is in the teeth. Mammoths had flat teeth, which they used to feed on the grassy plains of Siberia, while mastodons had jagged teeth they used for feeding on branches and leaves in forests of North America.

We know how the mammoth went extinct, but how did the mastodons go extinct? Mastodon fossils have shown that native Americans once hunted mastodons for food. Marks on the bones show that the natives used knives to cut off the flesh. Fossils also show that they died from tuberculosis. These are reasons for how the mastodons went extinct.

Death, like what the mammoths and mastodons went through, is a natural part of life ever since Adam and Eve sinned in the garden. Evolutionists believe that death has always existed for over millions of years. But God says in the bible that there was no death before Adam sinned. So if death existed before Adam, then death wasn’t the result of sin, and if death wasn’t the result of sin, then Jesus’s death on the cross couldn’t pay the penalty for sin. And if it wasn’t paid, then we all would be lost in sin. The good news is, Jesus has paid the penalty for sin, and has resurrected from the dead and is in heaven, holding on to the promise that he said to John the apostle. “I am coming soon”. Jesus came to this world in the form of a man, and is now coming back soon to take those who believe in Him home, to heaven forever. God’s word has been true from the very beginning, and it shall be forever and ever.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

For all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

  1. Thank you Maximus, another interesting story. Of course I knew nothing about Mammonths and Mastodons. You are going to turn me into a very knowledgeable
    person.
I am so glad we are Christians. I love Easter. Such a key moment in history.
The Resurrection proved beyond all doubt that Jesus was who he claimed to be: the Son of God sent from Heaven to save us from our sins. Because Jesus rose from the dead, death has been defeated and Heaven awaits us. Hallelujah!
I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.
    John 11:25-26
    God bless you
